In October 2011, President Bill Clinton announced Haiti week in Dublin Ireland to create awareness and raise
funds for Haiti. Over seven charities came together for Haiti week including Concern, GOAL, Soul of Haiti,
Habitat for Humanity, Plan International, and Unicef to support the first ever fund and awareness week for the
poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. In January 2012, at the Haiti Gala Ball with Haiti’s president,
Michel Martelly, Gena Hegarty, of County Mayo, Ireland, was the 1st recipient of the William Jefferson Clinton
Goodwill for Haiti Award.

Cardinal Seán Patrick O’Malley, O.F.M. Cap., was born June 29,
1944 in Lakewood, Ohio, and was raised in Western
Pennsylvania, where he entered a Franciscan seminary. At 21,
he was professed into the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin and at
26 he was ordained a Catholic priest. After earning a master’s
degree in religious education and a Ph.D. in Spanish and
Portuguese literature from the Catholic University of America,
he taught at Catholic University and founded Centro Católico Hispano (Hispanic Catholic Center) in
Washington, DC, an organization which provided educational, medical and legal help to immigrants. Since
his the Virgin Islands; Fall River, Massachusetts; and Palm Beach, Florida. Pope John Paul II appointed him
Archbishop of Boston in July 2003. Pope Benedict XVI named him a Cardinal in 2006.

IBEW Local 103 Sends Volunteers to Haiti to Wire New
Hospital Partners in Health, Mirabalais Hospital will be largest
in Caribbean. It will have 300+ inpatient beds, an outpatient
clinic, birthing center, dental center and a women’s clinic. It is
about an hour and a half out of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince.
Not only will it give the people of Haiti first class health care,
with the training and motivation provided by this project, it will
hopefully lead them to long-term employment at a decent
living wage, which is directly in line with the mission of the
IBEW.
